Amberley is one of the most picturesque villages in West Sussex, nestled beside the Wey-South Path and less than half a mile from the South Downs Way.
In the heart of the village, Amberley Village Stores & Post Office proudly serves the local community, along with the many walkers, cyclists, and visitors exploring this beautiful area. Pop in and you’ll find much more than a traditional village shop.
A village shop has stood in Amberley for many years, moving to its current home in The Barn in 1998. Since taking ownership in 2001, Colin Woods has carefully preserved the welcoming atmosphere and character of a traditional village store while introducing a range of quality local and speciality products.
In 2024, the business entered a new chapter when Lee Stace joined Colin in partnership, bringing fresh ideas while continuing the shop’s strong community values and commitment to local produce and friendly service.
Today, Amberley Village Stores is known for its carefully chosen range of local goods, everyday essentials, and award-winning COOK meals — making it the perfect stop whether you’re stocking up for the week, picking up dinner, or visiting the village for the day.
Specialities include our own-label pickles, jams, marmalades, biscuits, and sweets — perfect to enjoy at home or give as gifts.
Supporting local suppliers remains at the heart of what we do. Many of our products, including milk, cream, wine, fruit, and vegetables, are sourced from nearby villages, helping support the local economy while reducing food miles.
Whether you’re stopping by after a walk on the Downs, collecting provisions for a weekend away, or simply enjoying a visit to beautiful Amberley, we look forward to welcoming you.

Independent Grocery Store of the Year – West Sussex 2026 🏆
We’re incredibly proud to announce that Amberley Village Stores & Post Office has been named Independent Grocery Store of the Year – West Sussex in the Prestige Awards.
The judges highlighted our commitment to the local community, our outstanding selection of locally sourced food and produce, and the warm, personal service we provide to residents and visitors alike.
For a small independent village shop, this award means a great deal to us. It reflects the hard work of our team, the fantastic local suppliers we work with and, above all, the continued support of our customers and the Amberley community.

Community Champion
Supporting Amberley Through Covid-19
Amberley Village Stores was recognised as a Community Champion for going above and beyond to support the local community during the Coronavirus crisis.
When everyday life changed almost overnight, the shop adapted quickly to make sure people across Amberley could still get the essentials they needed. We moved rapidly into home delivery, supporting residents who were shielding or unable to get out and doing everything we could to keep the village supplied.
The award recognised the vital role the shop played during an incredibly difficult period and the commitment shown to looking after the local community.
For us, it was simply about making sure nobody was left without help when they needed it most — and it remains one of the recognitions we are most proud of.

Countryside Alliance Awards – South East Winner
Amberley Village Stores & Post Office was named South East regional winner in the Village Shop & Post Office category of the Countryside Alliance Awards – widely known as the Rural Oscars.
The 2017 awards attracted more than 11,000 nominations, celebrating rural businesses that go above and beyond for their communities.
The Countryside Alliance judges described Amberley Village Stores as:
“Nothing short of a miracle. They bend over backwards to provide what the community needs.”
As a regional winner, we were invited to the Champions’ Reception at the House of Lords, where the country’s leading rural businesses gathered for the national awards.
